The SESAR 3 JU has published two open calls addressing exploratory research, industrial projects, and activities to fast track innovative solutions within the framework of its Digital European Sky research and innovation programme. The calls, the first to be issued by the SESAR 3 JU since its establishment, cover a wide range of topics aimed at making air traffic management in Europe smarter and more sustainable. A total of EUR 194.75 million is earmarked for the research from the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.

Researchers from universities, research institutions, airlines, air navigation service providers, airport operators and industry are invited to submit papers presenting their exploratory research (up to 8 pages). Partners from both academia and industry are invited to submit proposals for posters and technical exhibits or demonstrations (max one poster/exhibit/demonstration per presenter, three per organisation).

The EASA Scientific Committee invites abstracts from PhD students to share concepts and results on scientific developments that may contribute to the future development of the EASA expertise in scientific and technical domains linked to research, innovation, and disruptive technologies; 500 word abstracts presenting PhD work and results with relevance in the following areas:
● Artificial intelligence (AI) in aviation
● Impact of climate change and extreme weather phenomena on the air transport system
● Environmental sustainability of air transport (emissions, noise, air quality, other nuisance, …)
● New approaches and methods for safety risk management in aviation
